But what was I supposed to do? Leave them there untouched when Mama had practically lined them up for me? The universe put them in a bag, placed them by the bed, and then knocked her out so I could grab them. That’s a sign, whether I wanted one or not.

This second Guardian sat near the top of the stack, and when I pulled it out later I understood why my chest was tight stealing it. There’s a presence in this one. A “don’t play with me” energy. I didn’t even turn on the light — the damn thing glowed enough in the dark to see the lines. I should’ve put it back. I should’ve apologized.
I didn’t.

And that’s why I’ve been triple-checking shadows ever since. The Guardians are strong… and I just hope their protection applies to the thief who yanked them out of their rightful home. This Guardian sits tall and sharp against the black paper, made with bold strokes that feel carved rather than painted. There’s a deep intelligence in the face — a divine geometry shaping each feature. The gold and white accents push through the darkness like signals, like warnings, like wisdom. It has the look of a spirit that doesn’t speak often, but when it does, you listen.

Mama calls these her latest inspiration. I call them my charges now… whether they agree or not.
